Went on a tour of the Nissan factory yesterday, and went to Colmans for my lunch with seven colleagues. Absolutely out of this world, will definatly visit with my family in the summer (10 hour round trip but worth every mile!) Not a scrap a food left by anyone! I consider myself a connoisseur of fish and chips :) and can honestly say these were the best fish and chips I have ever had the pleasure to digest. ROLL ON SUMMER!!!!!!

Dear Colmans,
Just to say what a wonderful treat it was to sit down to delicious fish and chips, in clean and comfortable surroundings, with friendly and efficient staff,.
My Dad said it was 10/10 and I've never heard him say that before. The Loo's were nice too. We even enjoyed queing as the people coming out and in the queue spoke to us and were friendly. As we left a large man, his wife/partner and child in buggy had come into the store before being invited in, Maria was very polite, professional and told him to wait outside, he started "mouthing off " and I thought she handled the situation calmly and couteously, the man was most unpleasant.
So just to say, Well Done to Maria. Hopefully most customers recognise a good thing when they see it.

Visited here with a few friends recently and was astounded with the friendly staff.
This was complimented by an excellent taste where we were all marveled by the succulent fish and the brilliance of the chips.
Truly enjoyed possibly one of the only decent places to eat in the entire of the North East, and as given awards state, it really is the best fish and chips place in the UK.
We salute you Colmans!

What else can you say about Colmans - they are simply the best.
The staff were very helpful with our two children, offering us high chairs and taking our pram for us.
The service was fantastic! Prompt and friendly, and the meal was the best fish and chips my partner and I have ever tasted.
We can not say enough good things.
Keep up the excellent work and thanks again.

We visited your restaurant today (01/10/10) as we had heard great things about it in the Press. Just wanted to tell you how impressed we were. We both had haddock and chips (sit-in) and it was delicious. Also, we were VERY impressed with how clean and nice the restaurant was. I've never seen a restaurant so clean! Also, the staff were really nice.

We will definitely be back again. You're a credit to the Northeast!

I live in Wales and when I secured my place for the 2010 Great North Run, a fellow runner told me about Colmans and described it as the best fish and chip shop in the world. I was on a serious diet for four months during training, and planned to go to colmans following the Great North Run and it was well worth waiting for, the best fish and chips I had ever had, very clean, very friendly and approachable staff and the meal was presented in a real nice box. The food was so nice, that I returned there every day for 3 consecutive days. Please open a shop in South Wales !!! Thank you / Diolch yn fawr!!! .

We have read about you, seen you on TV and now have tasted your wonderful food for our selves, while visiting family in South Shields. The Sea Food Plater is out of this world and all of us have become rather boring as we tell everyone how much we enjoyed the whole experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful and didn't appear to be in any rush to get rid of us although we were still chatting long after the restaurant had closed. A memorable experience which we hope to repeat may times in the future. Thank you. .

A fabulous visit once again. We ate in the restaurant this time and the service was fantastic, Maria in particular was ever so friendly. I had the fresh scampi, the only problem is I have spolit myself, scampi will never be so good again.

I was in South Shields yesterday supporting my son in the Great North Run and called at your fish shop on the way back to the Metro.

I have to say that the fish and chips we bought yesterday were the best I have tasted in many years and will definitely return to your shop when I'm next in the area.

It's very easy to complain these days but I like to give praise where it's due and the quality and price of your fish and chips certainly deserve praise.

Can't wait till I'm in the area again!

Keep supplying the best fish and chips for many a mile.

I had heard about Colmans from my Washington Friends, so made the effort when visiting, to find your restaurant. I must say in every aspect, from Friendly Staff,Service,Cleanliness and the Quality was all first class. In all my 70 years the fish and chips were the best I have ever had, just totally perfect, well done and thanks.

Dear Mr Colman. My name is Lily Whittaker and I'm 7 years old. My Grandparents took me to your restaurant over Easter and I had Fish Cake and Chips and it was the yummiest ever. In fact the nicest fish cake in the world. Granny also had fish cakes and she loved her's and Grandfather had a big cod with salad as he is trying to lose some weight. We all had a great time and I was given a lolly on my way out. I do want to come back

Visited the takeaway first time tonight and ate them by the sea. Had to find out how good they were after seeing them on the news. My whole family were not disapointed at all. They were excellent, lovely crispy batter and juicy (not overcooked) haddock. Delicious!! Will be back soon.

Colmans has been there all of my life. It was a family treat every time we went to the beach we had tea at Colmans, that was over 40 years ago, so imagine how impressed I was when visiting here this week to find you have won awards for your fish and chips. Rightly so as they are wonderful. I live in Manchester now and Harry Ramsden's fish and chip shops are all over the North West. Im my opinion they need lessons from Colmans as they have no idea how make quality fish and chips like you. I love the way you send your used oil to be recyled for Biofuel and that you are responsible about the type of fresh fish you use. Thank you for an excellent meal. You will be the first place we will eat at next time we visit.

The BEST fish and chips in the world ever!

I'm coming back home for the weekend at the end of October and can't wait to get proper fish and chips again.

Colman's Fish & Chips are the nicest you could have!! I was gutted that I could only have chips when I discovered I was wheat intolerant.
How delighted and impressed was I that they can provide gluten free batter!!!

Vistied 09/08/2008 with the family. They said better batter than The Magpie at Whitby! restaurant is spotless (althought a little overcrowded)service by beautiful waitresses is brilliant and the food to die for. Go there!

I've just had your fish and chips for the first time. They were the most amazing fish and chips I have ever tasted. I have long been a fan of fish and chips and living in Durham we had a lot of nice fish and chip shops. My local recently shut and I was told about your place. I wasn't disappointed. Whenever we visit the North East from Quorn Leicestershire a trip is made to COLMANS on Ocean Road for fish and chips and mushy peas and lemon slice which are eaten with great relish as a picnic on the sea front looking out at the glorious view over the North Sea
