On behalf of our family let us welcome you to the Legendary Colmans of South Shields.

We have been serving our famous Fish and Chips and Seafood's for over four generations, and have built our reputation by not compromising on quality or service. Indeed we believe quality is not expensive, it is priceless.

Here at Colmans we take great pride in sourcing only the finest local and seasonal produce. All our fish is sourced from sustainable and well managed fishing grounds, we also use local day boats, the names of which you will see on our blackboard. Our produce is cooked with great skill and passion by our experienced chefs and our course is served with a smile.

In recent years we have been delighted to win many National and Regional Awards (listed above or on our Awards Page) which had gained us both a National and Internatinal following. Recently we were honoured to be asked to provide our famous Fish and Chips for the Queen's birthday celebrations in Guatemala and last year we travelled to the British Ambassodor's residence Villa Wolkonsky in Rome to cook our fish and chips for 850 dignitaries and guests to celebrate the Queen's birthday.

Our menu has been sampled by a host of celebrity customers and Richard, Frances and the Colman's team have been judged and praised by some of the country's leading chefs.

We are the fourth generation to carry on the tradition and you will see on our walls old photographs of Comans though the years, some in different locations. Our first business was started in 1905 by my great-grandparents which was a small hut in South Shields foreshore. We then progressed and opened a large restaurant and takeaway on the same site, which remained there for many years. The in 1926 we opened Colmans on Ocean Road, where we still remain today. Our staff will be delighted to answer any questions you lmay have about our history and produce.
